Helping little people grow
About Us
At Pickles Preschool, we believe the early years should be filled with curiosity, kindness and discovery. We provide a fun, caring and nurturing environment for children aged 18 months to 4 years, where every child is valued as an individual. Our setting is based within a bright and airy hall, with daily access to a large garden area that encourages exploration, physical development and a love of the outdoors. This welcoming space allows children to play, learn and grow with confidence, supporting them to reach their full potential in a safe and stimulating environment.
Our aim is to create a caring and engaging foundation from which your child can begin to explore the wider world. Through carefully planned activities and child-led learning opportunities, we encourage independence, creativity and resilience. Every experience is designed to spark imagination while building essential skills that will support your child as they move forward in their educational journey.
Strong Relationships and Communication
We understand that strong partnerships between home and preschool are essential. Clear and effective communication with children and their families is at the heart of everything we do. Our key worker system ensures that each child has a dedicated practitioner who knows them well, supports their development and builds a trusting relationship with both the child and their family.
Our experienced and caring team continually encourage, monitor and support each child’s progress. We provide regular feedback on development and maintain an open-door policy so that parents and carers can discuss any questions or concerns at any time. By working together, we create a supportive community where children feel secure and families feel heard.
A Safe and Inclusive Environment
Creating a genuinely safe and inclusive environment is central to our ethos. We are committed to ensuring that every child and family feels welcome, respected and valued. A strong and robust safeguarding policy underpins our daily practice, ensuring the wellbeing of every child in our care.
We are proud to be recognised for the quality of our provision, having received a ‘Good’ rating from Ofsted. This reflects our dedication to maintaining high standards in care, learning and safety, giving families peace of mind that their children are in capable and compassionate hands.
Our Learning Experiences
At Pickles Preschool, learning is hands-on, engaging and meaningful. For example, during our recent topic ‘All About Me and Our Emotions’, the children enjoyed a fun-filled first week back exploring their individuality. They created beautiful self-portraits and took part in thoughtful conversations about how we are all unique, discussing differences such as hair colour, eye colour, skin tone and the clothes we wear. These discussions help to nurture confidence, self-awareness and respect for others.
The children also explored their emotions by identifying how they feel and expressing those feelings creatively. Using a variety of colours, they matched the Colour Monster to different emotions, helping them to understand and communicate their feelings in a healthy way. Mathematical thinking was introduced through practical activities too, such as using coloured cubes to measure the length of chairs, encouraging problem-solving skills and early numeracy development in a playful and accessible way.
Through activities like these, we provide a rich and balanced curriculum that supports emotional, social, physical and cognitive development — all while ensuring children have plenty of fun along the way.
